Walt and Dani from Channel 10’s Healthy Homes recently dropped in on an Energy Matters/SunEdison Australia team installing a Tesla Powerwall home battery system.
Apparently the first filming of a Powerwall installation in Australia, the project went smoothly (albeit in very blustery conditions) and the system’s proud owners can now gain much more from their solar power system.
Tesla Powerwall is a next-generation 6.4kWh wall mounted, rechargeable lithium ion battery incorporating a smart DC-DC converter and an advanced battery management system. Powerwall enables the storage of high value electricity generated by a solar power system for use in the home; rather than exporting surplus to the mains grid and perhaps just receiving a few cents per kilowatt hour under current feed-in tariff incentives.
While a very high-tech piece of equipment, the way it works is super-simple in terms of user operation. Powerwall gets on with the job of storing and dispersing energy quietly and doesn’t require any maintenance.
The arrival of Tesla Powerwall in Australia heralded the real beginning of Australia’s home battery system revolution.
In addition to new solar installations, Powerwall can be retrofitted to any existing solar panel system through AC coupling; using either a SolarEdge StorEdge solution or the upcoming SMA Sunny Boy Storage. The Fronius Symo Hybrid inverter will also be compatible later this year and current Symo Hybrid inverters will be upgradeable through a software update.
Energy Matters, currently celebrating its 10th year, has extended its special cashback offers on Tesla Powerwall installation and retrofits. The company is also running a Powerwall competition in most states, where one lucky winner will receive a fully installed Powerwall system, or $11,449 in cash.
Energy Matters has also recently revamped its popular free Solar Consumer Guide to include valuable energy storage information. The guide has been downloaded more than 27,000 times since first published in 2012.
Energy Matters’ parent company, SunEdison Australia, is one of the few Tesla Energy Authorized resellers in Australia. As well as installing tens of thousands of residential and commercial solar arrays, the company has been setting up battery systems throughout the nation for the last decade and is one of the most experienced energy storage installation firms operating in the country.
