With transparent traceability and commitment to responsibility, we give "green nickel" an ethical name

As the controversy over “dirty nickel” continues to stir up the Renewable Energy industry, consumers’ trust in “green products” is more precious than ever. As a global leading provider of clean energy solutions, GoodWe always believes that true green energy not only needs to “produce clean”, but also needs to be “clean throughout the process”. Regarding the application of nickel resources in new energy products and ethical issues in the supply chain, we are willing to share the current situation, actions, and commitments with the public with an open attitude.

1. Where does our "nickel" come from?

In GoodWe’s product system, nickel is a key material for some core components – coating (to enhance corrosion resistance), alloy (to enhance structural strength), and stainless steel (to ensure durability). This is a common demand for global Renewable Energy equipment manufacturing and a necessary choice to ensure product performance.

It should be clear that our product manufacturing process itself does not involve the mining or smelting of “dirty nickel”; our responsibility is to ensure that the purchased nickel resources meet environmental and ethical standards throughout their entire life cycle.

From the perspective of technology selection, GoodWe always follows the principle of “performance adaptation + environmental friendliness” in the application of nickel. Due to the high purity requirements of nickel for parts such as coatings, alloys, and stainless steel (which need to ensure corrosion resistance and structural stability), we prioritize Class I nickel extracted from sulfide ore, which not only meets performance requirements but also avoids the environmental costs caused by complex purification processes. In contrast, Class II nickel (“dirty nickel”) is not suitable for such basic material links in terms of economy and process complexity. Therefore, GoodWe has reduced its dependence on “dirty nickel” from the technical source.

It is worth emphasizing that in the core energy storage field, our entire range of household, commercial, and large-scale energy storage systems use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology – this type of battery does not contain nickel, fundamentally avoiding the need for high-polluting nickel ore, further strengthening the “whole-link green” attribute of the product.

In short, GoodWe’s choice of nickel is not only a necessary adaptation of performance, but also a proactive practice of environmental responsibility.

2. From "passive" to "active": our commitment to traceability

The core of the controversy over “dirty nickel” in the industry lies in environmental damage and hidden labor rights issues in some nickel mines, especially in nickel-producing areas. GoodWe’s attitude towards this is clear and firm: rejecting “vague green” and only accepting “traceable responsibility”.

Therefore, we will officially launch the GPM (Green Product Management System) in August 2025, embedding the EMRT 2.0 standardized reporting template (a global standard tool launched by the Responsible Minerals Initiative). The upgrade and expansion of this system is a key measure for us to proactively respond to industry challenges.

  • Coverage upgrade: EMRT 2.0 includes nickel as a core traceable mineral for the first time (while adding copper, natural graphite, and lithium), which means our traceability of nickel will be more accurate and systematic.
  • Whole-link traceability: The system can track every step of nickel from mining, smelter processing to final entry into the product supply chain, with a focus on nickel mines in high-risk areas.
  • Data Transparency: Through EMRT 2.0, we will share key information with suppliers and consumers, including the specific source of nickel (mine/smelter), whether it comes from conflict or high-risk areas, whether it meets the “clean mining” standard, etc., truly achieving “one mine, one code” traceability and controllability.

As stated in the “EMRT 2.0 Completion Guide”: “The significance of traceability is not only to identify risks, but also to promote the evolution of the entire supply chain towards a more responsible direction.” For GoodWe, the launch of EMRT 2.0 is not only a response to public concerns, but also an action to prove that the progress of Renewable Energy requires every link to take responsibility.

3. Green commitment and full chain responsibility

GoodWe is well aware that if the nickel resources behind batteries and inverters are accompanied by ecological damage and labor harm, it goes against the original intention of “green energy”. Therefore, we not only focus on the “clean output” of products, but also promote the “clean input” of the supply chain. This proactive launch of nickel resource traceability is not only a response to public concerns, but also an action to prove that Renewable Energy’s progress requires every link to take responsibility. We look forward to providing the industry with a “green nickel” procurement reference through the EMRT 2.0 system, so that consumers can see the “zero carbon” value when choosing, and be more content with the “zero dispute” supply chain. We plan to release the “GoodWe EMRT 2.0 Expanded Mineral Report” in May 2026, summarizing the traceability results with transparent data and fulfilling the “green promise”. The federal battery tax refund is coming, and consumer trust is even more precious. GoodWe always believes that brand influence comes from the persistence of “doing the right thing”: not avoiding the application of nickel, not avoiding industry challenges, and using transparent supply chain and traceable responsibility to justify “green nickel” – this is not only a commitment to consumers, but also the original intention of “making energy cleaner and more reliable”. In the future, we are willing to work with the industry, media, and consumers to supervise and make every nickel applied to products a reliable footnote to “green energy”.
